As a Jacksonville divorce lawyer, I often get calls from people who have questions regarding stepparent adoption. Here is an overview of some basic information.

Adoption Overview

Adults who live and work in Florida and have the ability to provide for and nurture a child may file for adoption. A stepparent may also adopt his or her spouse’s children. Here is the Florida 3rd District Court of Appeals No. SC02-516 on stepparent adoption.

The decision states “A person may not be prohibited from adopting solely because of a physical disability unless it is determined that the disability renders the person incapable of being an effective parent.”
